Education

Corinna Keenmon, M.D. was born and raised in the Texas panhandle and attended Plainview High School. She completed her undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin, graduated with high honors and accepted to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Dr. Keenmon earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She was awarded the American Medical Women’s Association Glasgow-Rubin Achievement Citation and the William C. Levin Scholarship for Academic Excellence.

Dr. Keenmon completed psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine in The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She completed training experiences at Houston Methodist Hospital, The Menninger Clinic, Ben Taub Hospital, Baylor Psychiatry Clinic, and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She earned the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation Scholar Award as a psychiatry resident.

Dr. Keenmon helped train the next generation of doctors and psychiatrists as assistant professors at both Baylor College of Medicine and Texas A&M School of Medicine.  She won outstanding clinical educator awards in 2017 and 2021.

Specialty Training

After residency, Dr. Keenmon completed a 2-year Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship program at The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). As part of fellowship training, she was awarded a 1-year post-doctoral scholarship with the Bureau of Health Professions in Geriatrics. Dr. Keenmon is board-certified in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Clinical Experience

After fellowship training at UCLA, Dr. Keenmon returned to the Houston area. She gained additional experience as a staff psychiatrist at UT Health Harris County Psychiatric Center, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Houston Methodist Hospital.

From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Corinna Keenmon held a leadership position as Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at Houston Methodist Hospital.  In addition, she served as Medical Director of Telepsychiatry for the Houston Methodist Hospital System in the newly-developed Virtual Medicine Department from 2021 to 2022. In 2020, Dr. Keenmon was named “Houston Methodist Hospital Physician Nurse Champion” of the year for her support of nursing staff during the global pandemic.

While at Houston Methodist Hospital, Dr. Keenmon started an outpatient Sports Psychiatry consultation clinic to provide mental health services to elite athletes and team personnel.  She is a preferred consultant to professional sports teams in Houston and is proud to be Team Psychiatrist for the Houston Texans.

Special Interests

Dr. Keenmon has a special interest in Geriatric Psychiatry.  She serves on the Advisory Council for Amazing Place, a day program for adults living with mild-to-moderate dementia.  In addition, Dr. Keenmon has a special interest in the treatment of athletes and members of elite sports teams.

Dr. Keenmon is an active member of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP), Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians (TSPP), Texas Medical Association (TMA), Harris County Medical Society (HCMS), and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA).
